Foreign Travel

Trips to foreign destinations require planning from a health perspective and this needs to be done well in advance of departure date, ideally, the minimum is 8 weeks prior to travel. However longer gives more time to ensure you receive the best advice and protection for your trip.

Please find a list of some travel websites that may be useful prior to your appointment and trip:

If you require NHS vaccination please contact the surgery for an appointment with a practice nurse and also be aware that we do not hold all vaccines in stock. Not all travel vaccinations are available free on the NHS, even if they are recommended for travel to a certain area.

The following vaccines are available free at this surgery on the NHS:

  • Polio
  • Typhoid
  • Hepatitis A
  • Cholera

Only the above vaccinations are available on the NHS and you will have to visit a travel clinic to obtain any others you may require.

Please be aware that we do not vaccinate non-registered patients.

We look forward to seeing you and helping you to travel safely.

Thorndike surgery and Primary Care nationwide is under severe pressure at this time.

We have been receiving an unprecedented demand over the last year, requests for appointments has increased by 100% and a 3 fold increase in calls to the surgery.

Our patient list size is the lowest it has been for a long while and as we are not considered to be at capacity, we have to abide by the rules of NHS England and promote that our list is open.

We have returned to normal duties and offering face to face appointments where clinically required. Please note although we have increased our GP numbers we currently have several on long term sick.

We thank you for your patience at this very difficult time.
